Spero Health Blog: It’s Time to Remember to Act – International Overdose Awareness Day 2022

In 2021 there were more than 107,600 drug overdose deaths reported. From March of 2021 to March of 2022, the number of drug overdose deaths increased by almost 10%. North America has the highest drug related mortality rate in the world and accounts for one in four drug related deaths globally. Opioids account for the majority of drug-related deaths and in most cases these deaths are avoidable.

These are just a few of the sobering statistics and facts about overdose deaths in our communities. It’s Time to Remember to Act.
International Overdose Awareness Day exists to educate the public on the public health crisis of overdose deaths, recognize those who have died without stigma, and acknowledge the grief that family and friends face across the globe.
