Addiction treatment venture hires chief legal officer

Substance abuse treatment company Spero Health has added to its leadership team a former AmSurg/Envision Healthcare attorney who will oversee the company’s regulatory and compliance work.

Clint Cromwell comes to Brentwood-based Spero, which runs 24 outpatient clinics in three states, as chief legal officer. He has more than 10 years of experience working at health care companies, most recently as enterprise mergers and acquisitions counsel at Envision since late 2016. Before that, he was general counsel of AmSurg’s 250-facility ambulatory services group for two years.

“While we continue to lay the foundation for national expansion, we will be exploring innovative ways to partner and integrate with others,” said Spero CEO Steve Priest. “Clint’s experience, abilities and collaborative approach will help position Spero for future success and shape sustained growth.”

Spero is backed by an investor group that includes Heritage Group and Frist Cressey Ventures and launched last year by buying a network of centers from Kentucky-based SelfRefind. The company recently also hired its first COO from Meridian Behavioral Health and said it is preparing to open its first Tennessee clinic in Smyrna in the coming weeks.
